this is adi (pronounced like andy), the woman chief of somosomo. we presented kava (a root that is pounded into a powder and then turned into a drink that tases not unlike muddy water and is a mild narcotic with a numbing effect on the mouth) to her in the form of a sevusevu ceremony which is traditionally given to the village when crews go ashore.

somosomo.

anchorage near somosomo looking in on a totally secluded beach.

this is my favorite area so far. the island of naviti near the village of somosomo has got the goods. really really nice people, gorgeous beaches, coral in abundance. you name it.

the impressive rocks of waya island.

  2. gail, where in the world am i? fiji of course, maybe a month or more to go...still deciding where to go next. ok so the captain is a 63 year old canadian who was a charter captain in the british virgin islands for the last 30 years. he is semi-retired now and just cruising around this part of the world for the time being. he has taught me how to sail and i'm totally competent now (and grateful for this) but you could definitely say that dave, as a teacher, lacks the necessary sangfroid. so as i've told him more than once, he can often behave like a thirteen year old child with the same lack of patience and politeness of said child struggling through the difficulties of puberty.

right now it's myself, the captain, and andy a 22 year old dude from new zealand who is an aspiring film maker(he's about to do some more course work in montreal). we get on great and can't wait to experience more more more. sadly, other crew mike (from aussie) and mike and lauren (from britain) have left us, either to return to the "real world" or continue travels elsewhere.
